My IMATS Experience 2013

Some of you may be aware that it was the London IMATS last weekend and I finally decided that this year I was going to go. My fiancé, Ben, came with me – I guilt tripped him into it as it was my birthday on 11th June (put that date in your diaries!). We went on Saturday 22nd and after waking up at 3.30am bubbling with excitement we finally set off at 5am.

We had a little trouble finding the parking (although I was impressed with Bens London driving) but got there in the end and joined the small queue outside the Olympia National Hall at 9.30am.

It was already pretty packed once we got inside which I had expected. I consulted my list of things I wanted to pick up, orientated myself then headed to the Make Up For Ever stand. The crowd was huge and it took about 15 minutes from joining it to be able to get close enough to the stand to even see what products they had on offer. Once I knew what I wanted it then took a further 15 minutes to get to the point of actually paying for my items! And that was just the first stand!!

Nars was next and I’m so glad I persevered with getting through that crowd as the 60% off discount was so worth it! They didn’t have the eyeshadow duos that I wanted, but there was a pretty eyeshadow trio and whilst I was waiting to pay for it I heard that the limited edition palette they had there was only £12.50 (!!!) so I grabbed that as well. The queue for NYX had to have been the worst one. I only stood in it for 5-10 minutes without moving before giving up and going to say Hi to another YouTuber I had spotted.

I picked up some brushes at Crown, a Z palette from PAM, some false lashes from Eldora and an eyebrow kit from Cresty. If you want to see a haul of the things I got you can check out the video below.

Despite some amazing deals the best part about IMATS was meeting other YouTubers. I got to meet fleurdeforce, missglamorazzi, honeylusthelz, oohlalashes, lauralovesbeauty and missbudgetbeauty. It was great to finally meet some of the youtubers I have been chatting to online, and so surreal meeting Fleur and Ingrid, but the highlight of my day was meeting missbudgetbeauty. Out of everyone I met, I watch Khila’s videos and read her blogposts the most and she was just so lovely.

The only thing I regret not doing is going to see the Pixiwoo talk on the power of social media. I think it would have been a good one to go to but it started at 3.45pm. Since there was still a couple of hours to go til the talk started, and Ben and I had been there since 9.30am so we were dead on our feet, I decided it was time to leave. We also wanted time to go to Ikea on the way home and not get back too late.

So that was my long and tiring, but totally worth it, day at IMATS. Check out the pictures below!

My top tips for IMATS:
  1. If your main aim is to go there to shop, get there early. It’s gets really crowded really quickly
  2. If your main aim is to meet people I suggest getting there for mid-morning – the people that have gone there primarily to shop will still be there and the people that have gone there primarily to meet other people will get there a little later in most cases, so you’ll get the best of both worlds
  3. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and a lot of waiting around the stands, comfortable shoes are a must!
  4. Make a list of what you want to get and make a beeline for that first, particularly the more popular items and brands – things sell out fast
  5. Set a budget and stick to it
  6. Take cash – it’s quicker to pay and some exhibitors don’t accept cards
If you have any other tips please leave them in a comment!

I will definitely be going to IMATS next year so if you see me please come and say Hi!
