Before we get into today’s post I just want to apologise for the missing Week 6 post – plain and simply I was just too busy to pull out products and put together a blogpost last week. As a result I just used whatever products I felt like and it did end up taking me longer to get ready and I started to feel mildly stressed about getting ready in the mornings because of it. I know that sounds a bit extreme but that’s the truth of it and I’m glad to be back on the bandwagon. So here’s this weeks picks:
- Benefit The Porefessional
- Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + in Shade 30
- Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer in Light
- MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NC15
- Avon Shimmering Lip and Cheek Balm in Powder Pink
- Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparant
- The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in Light
- Fashionista Blush in New York
- MAC Paint Pot in Soft Ochre
- ELF Mineral Eyeshadows in Elegant and Celebrity
- Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner in Black
- 2True Twist n Line Eye Definer in Shade 7
- Maybelline The Falsies Mascara in Black Drama
- ELF Wet Gloss Lash and Brow Gel
- Revlon ColourBurst Lipstick in Peach
- MAC Tendertone in Hush Hush
Looks from the past couple of weeks:
I’ve been doing these makeup of the weeks for over a month now. I’ve told you what products I’m using that week and talked about what I thought of last weeks choices, but I haven’t really mentioned much about one of the big reasons why I’m doing this.
Yes, the main reason is to shrink my makeup collection as I feel like it was getting out of control and was stressing me out, but another reason is because I want to save money! I’m sick of not having the cash spare for more important things and fun experiences because I’ve frittered away all my disposable income on something as frivolous as makeup.
I’m not saying I think it’s bad to buy makeup, obviously I love it otherwise I wouldn’t have this blog or my beauty channel, but sometimes the constant consumerism just gets to be too much. And I know it’s entirely self-imposed, but that’s the worry – the fact that I can’t seem to muster up the self control to not buy that limited edition lipstick, or go on a major online clothing haul all because I saw someone online had bought some cute clothes and I felt like I needed to as well….
Doing this “makeup of the week” thing has really helped to curb my makeup buying urges. It’s not that I haven’t bought any new makeup at all because I have, but I’m no longer going into Boots and spending it up because I feel like I need something new and pretty to try. I’m happy making my way through the products I already have and getting my use out of them.
I’m going to IMATS this weekend and although I’ve managed to save quite a large budget for it I don’t actually plan on buying that much makeup, or that much of anything to be honest. I just don’t feel that fingers-are-itching-to-buy-buy-buy urge, and I’m hoping that stays with me.
In August I’m planning on going on a social media ban as I feel like that will further help put a stop to my bad spending habits. Watching haul videos definitely doesn’t help the cause! Let me know if you have any tips for that as I have a feeling not watching YouTube videos (or going on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest etc) is going to be really challenging.
Sorry for the extra long post this week but I felt like I needed to get this off my chest.
