I’m Married! + Honeymoon in Mauritius (With Pictures)

I’m back, and I’m married! I have done a couple of wedding related posts (here, here and here) but didn’t have the time to do as many as I would’ve liked, so some of you may not be aware that the reason I have been a little absent from this blog is because I was getting hitched!

Ben and I got married on 23rd August and then spent 7 nights honeymooning in Mauritius. I’ve done a whole video talking about the wedding, so if you want to hear how that went and see a few pictures you can watch that, but I wanted to tell you about the honeymoon in this post.

It was a 12 hour direct flight and I’m not the best flier, but despite a few bumpy patches I actually managed to get some sleep and handled the mild turbulence without having a panic attack. We stayed at the Ravenala Attitude hotel on the North East side of the island, which in hindsight perhaps wasn’t the best location in terms of things to do around the area. Apparently the East side has the best beaches (although we didn’t managed to venture over to that side to explore), and the South is where most of the points of interest are. The hotel itself wasn’t the best to be honest. There was nothing terribly awful about it, more just a few little things that let it down and didn’t make it feel as special as we were hoping our honeymoon would be. Things like being kept awake by the loud music, not being able to get hold of an adaptor despite asking several times and being told each time that one would be sent to our room, the food not being piping hot and birds flying into the buffet restaurant and pecking at the food that was uncovered…

The hotel pool didn’t seem all that appealing but the beach was just 10 steps away so that’s where we spent most of our time – reading, relaxing and snoozing. We had hired a car so took a couple of trips out in that. On the Monday we drove to Casela, which is a safari park, and did a walk with lions as well as a segway safari. That was the best day by far and we both had so much fun. I absolutely loved the segway and can’t wait to go on one again! We spent the whole day at Casela, enjoying ourselves and looking at all the animals. That night we had a candlelit dinner by the beach as part of our “honeymoon” package, which was really lovely. The staff really catered to my lactose intolerant, vegetarian and not-too-spicy food requests (not that I’m fussy!), and everything they came out with was packed with flavour and presented beautifully.

A couple of days before we flew home we took the car out for drive to Grand Baie, just North of where we were staying. The sea looked a lot prettier there but the beaches weren’t quite as nice. From there we drove South to the Black River Gorges to look at the waterfalls. That was a little disappointing as you were viewing them from afar and they didn’t seem as impressive as I was hoping but it was a nice change of scenery from the beach.

Weather-wise, it was winter in Mauritius, which was still a pleasant 23-24 degrees C whilst we were there, but the sunshine was interspersed with short bursts of drizzle. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel and I’m not sure we would go back to Mauritius, but it was a very welcome break from work and was lovely to relax after the craziness of planning a wedding in 6 months. Now it’s back to work, playing catch up and trying to make my way through my monstrous to do list, so posts might still be a little sporadic for the next few weeks. Apologies for that, but I promise I’m trying to get back on track ASAP, and in the meantime here’s some honeymoon pictures…

Lush Five Gold Rings Review

lush five gold rings holiday christmas review thegirlinspired

Five Gold Rings is the second of my Lush Holiday Product Reviews, you can see my first one on Snow Angel here. With this one you get five individual orange rings, covered in gold glitter and threaded onto a piece of orange string, all for £4.95. These are bubble bars, so you just need to break a ring off of the string and crumble it under running water to give you soft, fluffy bubbles and golden yellow water with gold glitter flecks floating throughout.

Five Gold Rings is scented with vanilla, tonka and gardenia, and due to the size of the rings it’s not an overpowering scent.  It actually smells a lot like the Vanilla Fountain ballistic Lush used to do, but softer.

Speaking of size, these rings are a lot smaller than I thought they were going to be. I wish they were ever-so-slightly bigger as they don’t quite give me enough bubbles for my liking. Don’t get me wrong, there’s enough to cover the surface of my bath, but I feel like if they were bigger, the bubbles would hang around for a bit longer before dissolving.

I do really like the format of these individual bubble bars as one product though. You could say I’m a lazy bather – if adding products into my bath involves too much work I tend not to bother, that’s why I’ve favoured the ballistics more recently! The fact that Five Gold Rings is already portioned out into individual baths just makes for easier use. Otherwise you have to either section them out yourself (which I’ve found sometimes requires the use of a knife and is just a bit too much hassle for me – like I said, lazy!), or you wind up having just one, more expensive, bath!

This wasn’t quite as moisturising as I would have liked but it was nice all the same and I probably would repurchase it if Lush comes out with it again next year, just because they are so easy to grab and go!

Lush Holiday Haul 2013

Lush Holiday Haul
It’s the most wonderful time of the year…. Especially when it comes to Lush products. The holiday stuff that Lush comes out with each year are always my favourite things. In fact, my most favourite thing that Lush does ever is their Cinders Bath Ballistic, so I always make sure to stock up on them when the holidays roll around. So, of course, as soon as Lush came out with their holiday collection this year I had to pick up some of the cute new additions, as well as grab a few old favourites. Here’s what I bought:

❤ Bombardino
❤ Luxury Lush Pud
❤ Snowman
❤ Christmas Panguin
❤ Candy Mountain
❤ Cinders x4!!

I also grabbed a small tin of Charity Pot at the checkout, because it was only £1, the money goes towards charity (hence the name!) and why not?!

Check out my video below if you want to know a little more about each of these..
