I feel like I picked up these Maybelline Color Show nail polishes whilst they were on offer, but I can’t remember – that’s really bad isn’t it?! Anyway, I tried them each out, one a week, and wanted to share my thoughts on them.
Broadway Blues

This is the main shade I wanted to get. I don’t have anything like this blue and was craving it in my collection so I picked it up. It’s a cream finish and goes on really smoothly. It’s pretty opaque too, needing only a couple of coats to get full colour and an even application. Wear time was around 4-5 days before noticeable chipping but it started wearing at the tips by day 3.

Nebline

I have a few pale pinks in my collection but all of them are quite sheer, needing several coats and I wanted to see if this one was any better. This took 3 thin coats and the colour actually shows up quite a bit brighter on the nails than that bottle would have you believe. More of a pale barbie pink than the just-off-white pinky tint I was hoping for. Nevertheless it was still a pretty, girly colour to wear and it lasted a good 5 days before I even noticed wearing at the tips so big thumbs up on that front.
Teal Reveal

I picked this one up thinking it would be really pretty and give a mermaid kind of vibe. Unfortunately it was a bit of a disappointment as the glitter is really sparse. I used 3 coats of this to get some kind of a glitter effect, which was time consuming and I’m sure it will be annoying to try and remove all those layers of glitter. Despite all that it is very pretty, a mix of lime green/yellow and turquoise matte glitter with tiny gold shimmery glitter flecked throughout, so if you wanted a more subtle glitter effect this might be ideal.
Overall I do like the Maybelline Color Show polishes in general, the brush is a little smaller than I prefer but it still works well, gives great control and wear time is generally on par with most other brands. For £2.99 each you can’t really go wrong and this range has a variety of finishes and effects so you should be able to find something you like.

Review: Maybelline One By One Mascara

Maybelline One By One Volume Mascara review thegirlinspired

Three or four years ago I fell in love with this mascara, and even mentioned it in my Favourites of 2011 video. On using it up I moved onto trying out other mascara – I’m fickle like that… – but when I went to repurchase this one I couldn’t find it! Over the past few years I have kept my eyes open for it but hadn’t seen it anywhere, not really sure why, but when I was in Boots the other week looking at nude Maybelline lipsticks I noticed there was a 3 for 2 offer on the brand. As I was browsing the other products picking out my “freebie” whaddya know, there was the One By One mascara, so of course I grabbed it!

It really is a great everyday mascara, although I didn’t think so the first time I applied it. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t apply horribly, it just seemed ok and I was a little disappointed that my once very much loved favourite mascara wasn’t living up to my expectations.

(From top to bottom: no mascara, freshly applied mascara, end of day mascara)

However, when I came to remove my makeup that night I noticed that my lashes looked lovely. This mascara applies easily and evenly, fanning out your lashes with it’s oval shaped wand, but it’s when it has dried on your lashes that it really stands out. It seems to curl the lashes even more once it has set, and despite being classified as a volumising mascara it also adds a bit of length too whilst providing natural looking, clump-free volume.

All in all this is a lovely mascara that ticks all 3 boxes when it comes to how you want your lashes to look. Also, it’s easy to apply with it’s plastic bristled wand, can be layered to give extra volume without going clumpy, flaky or smudging all over your eye, and is readily available at Superdrug for a reasonable £8.49 (it doesn’t seem to be on the Boots website..)

What more could you ask for?!

NOTD: Maybelline Color Show White Splatter

Maybelline Color Show White Splatter
I recently picked up one of Maybelline’s new Color Show Street Artist nail polishes in White Splatter and I am so in love! It’s a great way to spice up a manicure without having to spend much time on it. I’m wearing it here over the top of Barry M’s Berry Ice Cream and I think it looks great.

This polish has matte white bar glitter; matte white small, medium and large hexagonal glitter; medium blue, green and purple hexagonal glitter as well as tiny white and purple dots. As you can tell this has A LOT of glitters which is great because it means it transfers onto the nails really easily, meaning you don’t have to play about trying to fish glitter out of the clear polish. What you see on my nails here is one swipe of polish. Pretty great huh?!
I haven’t seen any nail polishes like this from any other brands yet but I’m really loving this paint splatter effect. The quality of this Maybelline one is so good I think I might have to go and pick up the other colours….
